Eastern NE KS | We have a Roy L but learned it's heater is not strong enough in our barn. Luckily, a neighbor calves at the same time we do. He keeps his retired milking parlor at about 55-60*f. The Roy L works great in that environment but our barn only stops the wind. It is the same temp as outside. Not enough heat to do the job.
If I was you, I'd make one out of plywood lined with Styrofoam board and if you wish to get fancy, add 1/4" white plastic sheeting for easy cleaning to the inside. Heat goes under the calf that's laying on a elevated grated floor. Maybe use baby pig rubber covered expanded metal for this.
Focus on adequate ventilation on the topsides to let wet air out.
With any device bought or built, stay with it for the first few calves to know how it is doing. Drying time on ours in the parlor is 1-1.5 hours. Then the little guy starts standing and walks out the rubber flaps for a door. | |
