Different vets have different opinions for sure. I was talking to our main vet today and he thinks we should either pasteurize it or go to milk replacer. He said you will never eliminate all mycoplasma on the farm. You just need to keep levels low enough that the calf can handle it. He says milk replacer would be simplist for us, but he did admit that for as much as he likes milk replacer for disease control, calves on whole milk will grow better as long as they stay healthy. I still like the idea of using whole milk, but maybe we should just switch to milk replacer till we get something figured out with acidifying. We could pasteurize but then we need to shell out money for a pasteurizer. Maybe we could trade our Urban Milkshuttle 200 for one with a pasteurizer on it.
