Subject: Wine question?

How many years should a guy let wine sit before drinking? I don’t make wine but found some with the family name on. Got this as a gift and was wondering when I should actually drink it. I have no stake in it. Could be rotten for all I know since I’ve never opened it. Web say 10 years is this correct?
