Pittsburg, Kansas
"So how do we really know? "

We don't. I just always figured it was part of the dangers of the job or occupation.

The world is a dangerous place to live. We do what we can to keep the dangers within our tolerance of risk. That tolerance varies widely between individuals.

For example I ride motorcycles. Most people find that too risky.

Some people spray pesticides. Some find it too risky.

Almost everything we do involves some level of risk. Each person has to decide what level of risk is acceptable to them.

The big problem is, we often don't have a good picture of what the actual risks are. And just as often conflicting sources with different information and opinions.

And therein lies the problem. We have to make a personal decision based on limited information that is often conflicting and confusing. With people and organizations on both sides with various conflicts of interest. Yet we still have to decide. It often boils down to "who or what information do you trust?"

Well that was a long speech that told you nothing. :-(
