Back in 1960 7.45 oz of gold would buy an average acre of Iowa farmland.
In 1971 we went off the gold standard and the next twenty years land went from $419 an acre to $2147 an acre back down to $787 an acre then back to $2083 an acre. At the same time gold went from $40 to $460 to $368 to $310.
From 2002 till now both Gold and land have generally moved in tandem. It has ranged from 6.71 oz of gold down to 5.73 oz and now back to 6.44 oz per acre of land.
