What is the budget? Smokers run anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands. I started with a Green Mountain Davey Crockett then moved up to a CampChef Woodwind. Most pellet smokers are not really good for high temp stuff but they are usually great for long low temp cooks. The ceramic either Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe are a good all around versatile cooker that can do smoking and searing but do require more attention than a pellet grill.
