Same thing here. Poor farm field across the fence from one of my pastures (with hills that will tip a side by side) is going into CRP for $290/acre.
Is that $290 a year? That's crazy, here good farm land with flat fields that are all at least 150 acres bring $60 to $70 and acre cash lease. And we are talking around 180 bushel corn ground. And quite frankly if a person so choosed they could plant 2 crops a year with our climate. And to top that off there is also an abundance of ground water if you wanted to irrigate.
I rent pasture for $20/acre. 1 cow to 5 acres will give you enough land to cut hay and have feed for winter. |
