We lost 18 calves two years out of 50. We never had it before. One of the mornings we had 5 dead overnight! Made us sick. Last year and this have not lost a one and did not vaccinate for blackleg either of the years. Sucks when you don't have the proper set-up.
If you lost that many in 2 years and you still are not vaccinating then I'd bet you will lose more and probably just got lucky the last 2 years.
Blackleg is in the soil, it doesn't go away. 18 more dead calves would buy a lot of vaccine and a proper set-up to administer the shot. |
