Subject: RE: Grazing issues

I don't understand the palatability issues with smooth brome, my experience is that cows love it, and is the only grass I have ever observed my cows eating from the mature seed head down instead of grazing down thru it to the bottom of the sward. Biggest problem here is the establishment of it then keeping the stand as it does not seem to tolerate the repeated close grazing or haying of it. With grasses I often wonder if people are 100% right on their identification of them as it is not as simple as legumes where one gets colored flowers to help identify them. Just like here people who bad mouth quack which I believe has become a classification to which several different grasses fall into by those who do not know or understand the differences.
