But the 2012 issue was the neutral state following the La Niña. So the cold water wasn’t pushed out and we got the worst of both worlds. Cold water remnants in the Pacific keeping the west cold, the high parked over the central US and dryness from the previous year preventing moisture from getting north. The feeling is the strong transition will overwhelm the leftover cold Pacific water and NW flow will dominate. That means frequent fronts and rain systems and cool weather in Jun-Aug. Snodgrass also mentioned that NW flow in May means dry as the warm humid air is still working north. | |
