Eastern NE KS
I finally found your source article and it raises a few other interesting points.

#1 I can calculate a bull's MCE = CEM - ½CED. Why do I care? A big CED has an impact on CEM. I'm not sure why CEM is setup this way.

My last 5 ai heifer bulls, current epd's.

MCE = CEM - ½CED
4.5 = 13- ½(17)
1 =. 6 - ½(10)
4. = 9 -½(10)
7.5 = 10 - ½(5)
12.5. = 17 - ½(9) ... This bull nailed CE issues. However, as his proof eventually developed, his growth performance was lacking.

These calculations

#2 quoted from article
"Occasionally, members ask if selection for higher CED will ultimately result in reduced maternal ability to calve unassisted. In the Angus genetic evaluation, the genetic correlation between direct and maternal (only) calving ease is -0.06, very near zero."
