Have seen a few over the years, but most were in long hoods. A 12v71 is probably shorter than the cat though, it's not a huge engine in length.

A 12v will run, they are 435hp non turbo, and 525hp Turbo, but they are very different in how they pull from a CAT. If you look at spec sheets they say they have torque from 1400RPM on up, but you sure can't use it. Now, keep that thing singing at 2K RPM and they work well. Pretty well opposite a CAT, so gearing may not work well in your truck.

All that said, engine swaps have a lot of open ends, so unless you don't need the truck for a while, or have a lot of free time, you can fix the CAT much faster than swapping I'm sure.
