Subject: RE: wireless internet, can a home PC use it?

the friend was in my house, no router here.

i purchased a wireless adapter seems to work just like their card that plugs into their laptop, i bought no router. when i search for a wireless network it finds one every now and then with a 44% or so signal strength. but i get a messgae that i can not access that network.

when they fire up their wireless program, it dials a number just like a dialup but connects within seconds. then once on the Verizon network, they can can click a icon and see all the other networks available to them. here, they only had one other available, the same one that my adapter picks up as the numbers are the same. when they are at their home, they get as many as 10 different networks and can hop over and ride any of them. but, when they hop that ride, there is the chance that the network is insecure.

i'm ignorant and found no "expert" advice via Google before purchasing this USB adapter, for 50.00 i figured it was worth a shot. vi
