I spent years collecting and burning Waste Vegetable oil, it's different than converting it to full on Biodiesel. It's by far easier than squeezing canola into oil. If your dead set on producing your own oil and burning it weather as oil, or converted to BioDiesel, start with soybeans.

On edit, I filtered and cleaned the WVO into a really clean used oil and burned it at a 75% oil 25% #2 diesel mix in my powerstroke in the summer months with no modifications.

I built a heated tank, lines and filter setup for my VW jetta and burned straight WVO for years in that thing. I've been out of the game for 5 years now, just don't put on the miles like I used to.
