Subject: RE: Plant canola, convert it to diesel fuel?

NW Washington
The University of Idaho has been working on and during research on growing and making biodiesel fuel for about the last 40 years. Biodiesel can be made using a simple expeller press and then using a simple reaction of the oil with alcohol and a catalyst to make usable diesel fuel. The problem has always been that making biodiesel fuel costs more than regular diesel refined from crude oil. Using methanol for this process is the easiest. Ethanol can be used but it is a more difficult process.
Current fuel prices might change this situation. The link is to a video on Idaho's biodiesel research.
