central - east central Minnesota - | kipps - 6/18/2022 16:51 What's involved in doing this? Is it feasible at all on a farm level? Every google search I do for DIY biodiesel just tells me to collect all the "throwaway" (yeah, right!) cooking oil from restaurants. I want to know how I can control the process from the field to the tractor, without relying on the generosity of restaurants. I doubt we're quite to point yet where every farm should have their own canola patch and processing capabilities. But it's something that should be looked into a bit to see if it could be feasible. It's simpler then you think - it just a press/screw that separates the oil of the seed from the seed meal. Bigger concern, what will you do with all that canola meal after separating the oil from the seed ? https://www.energrow.ca/products/es3750b . I bet there are government grants you could qualify for to purchase the equipment and set it up ? ? ? https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2022/06/03/usda-has-provided-700-million-restore-sustainable-fuel-markets-hit . Please report back - and share what you learn/do to make it happen. TIA |
