Do we see so many Canadians around us in Florida during the winter? And yes, many come down for the warm weather. BUT, a LOT of them come down for medical care also. Why would they come here for healthcare, if it’s free in Canada? Again, I’m talking about a pretty fair sized number.
When the temp. is warmer as any in Canada in the winter, the folks that flock to Florida for the winter is the older retired ones.
Then they have to hope for medical attention and read where some would get things looked after, when they're down there because why stay up here locked inside when you can recuperate outside in the warmth.
Your health doesn't take a vacation, just because you're on one.
We buy Med. Insurance when we go on a trip, because things happen and you don't want to be stranded somewhere without coverage.
Health care in Canada ,is not all free for anyone.. It includes certain things and if you don't have health benefits also, you're going to pay out of your pockets for some. Be self employed (unless you buy health benefits) and see how much you have to pay for, like Drugs , Glasses, Dental , Chiro. and much more .

If you or your spouse works somewhere where they have free unlimited benefits , then you're one of the very few and the real lucky one.
The great thing in Canada , if you have to go to the hospital its there and they're going to look after you (most of the time) and yes there is people that fall through the cracks.
The amount of Diseases and things that can go wrong with you is outstanding and if there is a place that specialized in that, why not go there if you can to be looked after. The population in the world (not just North America) is mostly older people and yes they do need more Med. attention than when you're younger.
