The problem of the whole planter sitting during downtime for a problem with a single row is the only point I have seen that actually holds water in twenty years of participating in this argument.   This one is actually valid, to a point, however one must also take into account that the 1 row planter is going to spend 48 times as long in the field before the season is finished, therefore increasing the odds of a breakdown occurring.
