I have never located a seeping shaft seal with dye.
I have never located a porous hose with dye.
A slow leak that will show up under UV light must deposit the dye toward the mechanic to be seen.
Soap, or a good electronic sniffer is needed to find these leaks. - But then....

An electronic sniffer doesn't work very well outdoors or anywhere there is the slightest draft.

And the soap method needs a fair sized leak to be readily visible.

My point?
If you really are serious about fixing air conditioners, you need skill with all of these methods.
