There are 3 important things to make an IH head tear up the stalks.

1st the drive coupler for the stalk rolls has to be in good shape so the the knifes are timed properly, then the knives need to be set so that they touch (they will wear themselves in quickly) and run the head fast.

We rebuilt our 853 IH a couple yrs ago, still cuts the stalks into about 5"-6" long pieces.


If the timing is off on the rolls and the knives are dull/to much gap, it will look almost as bad as if a Deere head was in the field.
