Subject: Re: chopping corn heads

This past fall we bought a 12 row 22 inch gerringhoff corn head. It was the Northstar edition. This corn head doesn't have any chopping/dicing action to it but it cut and shreded up our stalks just fine. And it didn't cost as much as the full boat rota-disc version. The Northstar is ALOT lighter in comparison and is very low maintenance. The shreding action on this head is just like our old 883 IH corn head where the "grab-roll" blades meet together to cut the stalk, instead of having the blades being offset from each other. I really like this corn head. In my opinion, for the money it does just as good a job as the expensive, heavier, 1000 parts flying in different directions, full chopping corn head made by gerringhoff. As far as service we have the luxury of having a gerringhoff dealer 8 miles from the farm. Nobody around here has a draco head but I have always wondered how they compared.
