| We light a lot of fires here when we're burning blueberries in the spring and fall. We've got a 4x4 3/4 ton with a 250gal water tank on it, and 40ish gallon water tanks on the burners but it's not always enough. The 4x4 won't go everywhere on rough and rocky fields, so we felt it was time for an upgrade that would go anywhere. I fiddled with getting a good nozzle but wasn't happy with any of the garden hose ones or fire-fighting fog nozzles, so I ended up making one that works much better than anything I could find commercially. It's in one of the pics below, but I can't decide if I like the 1/8" or 1/4" nipple better. The action pics of the hoses working show the old garden nozzles in action. The nippled ballvalve puts out more water and gets much better distance.
Anybody else work up something for fighting fires? I'd love to see it, as well as comments and suggestions for improvements on ours.
What was the recipe for ours? Take one old 300 gallon Hardi tow-behind sprayer, add a coupla weeks of fiddling around, some steel, a new swivel hitch, and a high-pressure Honda water pump and what've you got? This little darling.
