| Yeah, I thought about that, however we are in the northern-most area of the Des Moines lobe of soils. Very black, very water retentive, very cold. Spring tillage at any depth over 4" (especially with a shank) up here is challenging in that it is difficult to not end up with a bunch of wet slabs which become hard after drying. A coulter machine would work in the spring, however, as I said, I am reluctant to consider one of those. Another reason for this is the time crunch in the spring with these narrow, dry windows we get in the spring. I don't think we could stay ahead of the planter. | |
