Subject: RE: Soybeans in Western Canada

Rivers, MB
What is your rainfall like late in the season? We are 1/2 hour north of Brandon,MB. We tried soybeans in 03 and 04. Both years were not great soybean years. Soybeans need lots of heat all year and moisture late in the season which we do not typically get. In 03, we had sufficient heat but we received little rain in July and Aug. We ended up with around 24 bu/ac. 04 was the summer that never was. Frost on aug. 19th put them out there misery. Neighbor close by has been experimenting with them for the last 3 years. Don't know how they are yielding but they are making maturity. Not expanding his ac. though!

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
