Just to clarify, forgive me if you already know this but some folks have missed this step in the past, in a skip row system you don't cut back the population just redistribute it. For example in a plant 2 - skip 2 system you would set your planter up to plant at 32,000 but then block tubes or empty boxes for the rows you skip. Likewise a plant 2 skip 1 would use a planter setup at 24,000. Total population remains what you would normally plant. I guess this may be one reason I don't follow Matt's comments on reducing number of stalks.
