| You have to keep in mind that a Herf has a curly winter coat, adds dimension to the animal. They will "look" like they are carrying more finish than a slick-haired angus cross cow when they actually are not.
Also, in my experience from years ago with our old Herf cows, those things have a hide tougher than a buffalo. It'll bend needles if they aren't sharp and you don't stick them straight in. That hide thickness also "smooths out" the look and deceives the eye.
