IJ, thanks for nephew's input. Sounds valid to me. I guess I hadn't heard of a jump drive (flash drive?) failing...but then again, he's probably got a lot more experiences than I.
I use a USB external HD in the manner you suggest. Maybe not lockbox, but off-site storage minimizes potential of destruction. Actual run-time on this HD will only be measured in minutes.
