I agree if you can get to them right after calving they are pretty docile and the cow is usually preoccupied a bit...

However many of mine I don't see for the first time until they are a couple days to a couple weeks old. At that point it is less stress on them and me to tag them at the workup in May.

Rarely am I around when the cow actually calves.
