NW Ohio,near Findlay
Watching post, helped rebuild 5010 Industrial finals, much bigger than the 4010. You do have a Deere service manual I hope. Been too long to help much, but have a few tips.
I would be looking into why the shaft froze up. Towing without being in the low range does most of them in, I may be wrong, but I thought that killed the top shaft. Of course you will be checking the bottom screen, and transmission pump. It's a gear pump, don't know exactly how to check it whether it had good pressure, others might know.
On the industrial 5010 we had problems with the brakes and the ring gear carrier bearing on the left side. The right side bearing gets oil splashed on it from the ring gear. Both bearing gets oil from the level in the transmission, however if you let oil get low in the case, and run with left side high, (plowing), the left bearing will not get oiled. Our 5010, which were self loader scrapers, we run on very steep slopes, and we and the factory finally figured it out, not enough oil. We had three machines that did this, and then we run the transmission oil higher and added a line inside the case that flowed oil right on that left side bearing. A warning to all, don't run those machines low on oil, keep the level at high mark or a little above.
Look into brakes, pads with rivets can be loose and rip off, very bad, brakes will grind off steel and ruin everything. Check end play on outboard axles, and have fun.
