Had a minute did a Google search. Google is a tech experts friend, even an ex tech. Seems western digital had a disk utility that wrote zero’s to their HD’s. Seems these WD drives could be reformatted using a pc and then often reformatted by dish to work as a DVR. Not sure if the above link is useful or not. Good Luck
