How old of hay? If very old probably has cat piss/crap on it. Very good chance the ewes will get toxo plasmosis. Which one tablespoon of infected cat raccoon possum crap in 1 ton of grain can abort 100 ewes readily. Good alfalfa and a couple pounds of 13% grain mix will cover lactation. Most larger feed mills will have a bagged ration generally. Where are you located that helps with feed mill locations in my general area.

It’s been in the barn and dry for 10+ years, the barn is probably Over half full yet of small squares. I wonder how much would have to be peeled off the top to avoid those issues? If it seems to risky I’d just get my hands on fresh (2023) hay and just get rid of the small squares. I am in southwest Wisconsin, Im glad I got these replies as it always helps to have multiple ideas. My goal is to keep
It simple for the winter (wife stays home and I travel for work) and decide on a better solution by next fall if we like it and keep moving forward.
