Eastern NE KS | You are focused solely on CED. If a producer does that you are correct. A producer must attend to CEM too.
The practical bug-a-boo with CEM is low accuracy. Phenotypic records comes from a sire's daughters and their success at calving. The bull is 5-6 years old before we really know much about a sire's CEM. A young bull's CEM is largely an echo of his parents/pedigree. However, that assessment is still better than nothing.
My opinions about all this is very much like yours especially within world of high percentage Simmental cattle in the early '90s. I am pleasantly surprised in the Angus world that the ce flip-flop across generations is not as obvious or strong. | |
