West Central Iowa | Pelvis size is positively correlated to frame size. Calf size to pelvic ratio of < or = to 1.9 often means you will have issues. So to stay above this ratio consistently you typically need some frame as calf size may increase a couple pounds with a little more frame, but your pelvic size gain should outweigh this.
If you have a small frame herd of jerseys and a large frame herd of a continental breed this doesn’t really work. If you have an Angus based herd staying at 6 or above should help significantly, but it is no substitute for looking at hip length or pelvic measurements if that’s an option.
