Subject: How are camshafts made.

just a tish NE of central ND

My son asked me a question the other day that I could not answer because i do not know.Maybe you guys can enlighten me a bit. The question is, how are camshafts ground/made for engines. Computer controled grinder machinery (cnc) is what comes to mind. It must be quite a machine to get all the humps in correct location.
How were the procuced before computer controled manufacturing?
