Not in 1948 but a few years later. Darn near got my ring finger pulled off when the wagon caught on my ring as it passed the blower hopper. Our first hoists were mechanical cable hoists driven by a belt and a tumbling rod. Later they were driven by PTO. Hydraulics were truely a god send.
We used to fill the silo that way and I got to throw every fork full out of the silo. Scoop it up again in a basket and carry it down the feed bunks.
