Central Illinois | is in my shed as a second planter. Deere originally made 100 of these babies in the early 80's, but only sold a few. Just as the 7200 series came out, we were looking for a 16 row planter, but our dealer said if we waited just a bit, we could buy the old style 24 row (new) for 10,000 less than a 16 row. Since we really wanted to go with a 12 row head, we went for the deal. Deere never did sell all of the old planters, and parted out the last 25 or so. That is why Deere waited several years before bringing out another 24 model, they just didn't see enough demand for them. Even though ours is ancient, it still plants a couple thousand acres a year with Keeton Seed firmers, Yetter Sharks-tooth residue managers, dual Rawson hydraulic drives, and true count clutches on each side of the transmission. With auto steer, the old markers don't see much use either. We were only offered 14,000 for it, but it is worth that to us as a backup.
P.S. Original price in 1985 was $48,000
