I used one like you are talking about back in 96-97. Except we were set on 30" centers and I pulled a 1,500 gallon 3 wheeled tank behind the rig. I don't think we worried about dept control just let it down and went. I could cover some acres with that rig. After I moved across the state they converted that rig to a 3pt. I think they just took it off the frame and put a 3 pt hitch on.

I don't remember what coulter we used, but it ran about 3" deep into wheat stubble and then we planted no till corn into it. That was before we had GPS so it was all old school.
