| Just find where it works best for you and go with it...
I'm running a Cummins and 13 speed, but the idea is about the same. The first few on the low side I usually hit just above idle, then I move up to 13-1500 range for most. It just depends. If I'm climbing a hill and gearing up, then I rev faster so I don't lose a gear. If I'm pulling hard, then I rev faster... but it also requires being more precise.
If you shift at lower speeds, the gaps between gears aren't quite so wide, or don't seem so wide... I find that this one falls into gear nice around 1300 quite often.
Just play with it and work it out. Really, it will pay you to become proficient at shifting anywhere and everywhere.... then you're less likely to get caught in a bind.
