Big Country Area, area in and around Abilene TX
Not a JD man. But was told about another farmer that had switched from a 4630 to a 4640. He is reported to be very pleased with the 4640. Lots better than a 4630.

I do remember that there were some issues with 4630 rear axles. There was an approved repair method for repair to the axle end, but it could be done only once, the second time around for repair was impossible and not recommended.

As for the hydraulics, do not know. Suggest checking out shop manuals. I thnk that there were improvements back in that time frame. Check with a shop manager and other 4630/4640 owners.
