Subject: RE: Need to build a cheap pony wall

NC Indiana
Dang, we seem to be writing and post at the same time. We have a double pipe rafters on 16' centers. No wall movement even after 75 mph winds. We were shooting for 4' in the ground, but some are 3 1/2 and some are 4 1/4 due to keeping the top of the wall level and wanting a 6 ft tall pony wall. Check to see that your site is level, we thought it was close, but were a foot off from corner to corner. Our post were set in the ground and braced off, then the concrete was poured and left to cure. Also, the 2x12 on top, we off set it so that it overhung 2-3"s to the outside so that it pushed the cover off of the rafter mounts (per the reps recommendation). One problem w/ the steel on the outside was that we had to cut pieces out to mount our anchor ratches, so keep that in mind, but all of our lumber is covered otherwise.
