Subject: Late Harvest

As this harvest has gotten later, my 93 year old Grandad has broke out the old stories of late harvests during his lifetime.

A favorite was about the year he took out the no-cabbed JD 45 and cut the milo heads off the top of the snow (They were calling for more snow). North wind was howling and he said he could make about 3 rounds before the cold got him. Then into the house to warm up for a while then back out for more. Finished cutting milo in late January or February that year...although he could remember exactly the year he was thinking it was in the late 50s.

Another favorite was the year they had a hydraulic drive 95 and were cutting milo in January when it was very cold (early 70s). They got the motor started but couldn't get the oil to warm up enough to let the combine move. So, they drained the oil, put it on the floor of the pickup to warm up, then put it back in.

Sure hope it dries soon so we don't have similar stories to add. Sure many of you have great stories as well.
