I can assure you that 2.5" does not apply to ALL soil types. Wish I had taken pictures. This year where we planted over 2" deep in the gumbo about half or less of the corn came up. You could see the line all summer long where we backed the planter out. Expect the 1.5" to yield 30-50 bushel better. Seen it in many years past too so it's not a one time thing. We've never yet had a problem with down corn.
