SWMO | Well it happened. After telling grain cart driver all day about watching for power poles in this peticular field, I hit one with combine auger. Dont know how it happened, I just made my end turn and checked............it was in...........grain cart was on other side of pole, waiting to catch...........pole was about 200 feet from end of row..........sometime between end of row and pole my auger came out. Instinct maybe? Dont know. Sick feeling when it happens.
Looks like snapped cylinder, tube totaled along with second half of horizonal screw, elbow looks buckled, and grain flap damaged.
Any stories of happening to others (would make me feel better) and estmates of cost and whats involved would be appreciated.
JD 9650sts with 20 ft auger. I wanted to convert to new style end anyway, and horizonal auger has about 2000 hours on it.
Maybe it is "there are two kind of combine drivers.....ones that has hit a pole, and ones that are going to!" | |
