A stick welder in the wrong set of hands can be just as much of a problem. I don't know if its right or wrong but I'll turn the heat up enough to where I'm under cutting, then have an amigo grind it clean and cap weld it with a smaller rod on lower heat if I got to do something with a stick POS.
Gilcrest 4wd axles on JD combine. Ever bust one?
