Subject: RE: Packing silage MFWD vs 4WD

I'd use the heaviest piece of gear I had for packing, but I don't think I'd make a purchase decision on what to buy based on packing requirements... unless it was packing all day long for weeks on end.
If a FWD fits into you operation well in other areas, then by all means... it's going to be bigger, heavier and more able on the pile. No contest there. But I'd look more at what other uses you have for it.

We use a Cat D4 hightrack for packing. It's the heaviest machine we have. Lots of power and weight to keep up to our chopper.
After using a blade I find it hard to go back to working with a loader for pushing loads up and spreading them out, but mabey that's just me...
I say use what you've got that works.
