Subject: RE: Mice in machine shed

One of the problems with crushed limestone is that the sharp and square edges allow the rock to bridge, and therefore it will support tunnels. I work for a food manufacturer, and industry sanitary design is to use a 30" wide barrier of pea-rock (it is round and will collapse) around the perimeter. Also important to keep this area free of vegetation, because rodents don't like to be out in the open and exposed to predators such as animals or birds. Bait stations along the wall, such as other posters suggested, will work well. Tomcat actually sells a bait station that can be secured to the ground, and will prevent other animals from stealing the bait bar or carrying away the station. I would also recommend a bait station on either side of any doors, because most large doors don't seal well enough to keep mice out.
