| Unless they're absolute "butter beans" you shouldn't have any problems keeping them in a bin. Have done it many times as we never seem to get rid of the green beans until after a killer frost. Most times you won't even be able to find them when you unload the bin.
Beans keep best in a wooden bin IMO. In a steel bin they will go thru a "sweat" no matter how dry they are & will need some air. For some reason they don't seem to do that in a wooden bin. In the past I have stored 14-15% beans in wooden bins, no air, & not had any problems. I wouldn't try that in a steel bin. You will also get a "hidden shrink" when storing beans in a steel bin but not a wooden bin.
Problem with most wooden bins is that it's work to get the grain in them & more work to get it out. Have a farm with a wooden granary that has 5 wooden bins overhead but quit using it years ago because of all the work involved filling & unloading the bins. | |
