Subject: Machinery--the floating kind

Bourbon,Indiana

My sister lives near grandhaven, Mich. and they put on a heck of a festival honoring the coast guard at the end of July each year. We go up and camp in her yard. The parade is on of the longest and best I have seen. People really get up and clap to show their support for this essential branch of our military. There are ship tours and even the Canadians send down a ship & crew. My understanding is they are more of a civilian service vs. our enlisted coastie's. But they really enjoy coming down, as they have are welcomed into the community and the crew I talked to said they do not get recognition at home very much.

The pics are of the three ships (two U.S. and one Canada), and the tool room of the Canadian ship. I wish it was not so busy, so I could spend more time talking to the machinists, but there were too many people coming behind. The tools are almost all Snap-on/Bluepoint.

Enjoy!

P.S. Keep in mind the tool room is at best only 8x12 not including machinery. Very tight! I don't know what happened to the engine room pics, but that was even better than the tool room! Yes the orange shirt/red hat kid is mine driving the boat.

I did not get pictures of it, but in the smaller U.S. boat, in the control room there were two captain style chairs whith the H shoulder style harness. It must get pretty rough in that little room. There were a couple of old wooden canes leaning up near the control board & I inquired about what purpose they served, thinking it was to help get around in rough water. The answer came back, that they were there to pry/pull someone away from the control panel in the event of electrocution! I think they are 600 volt panels? Yikes!
