Subject: Re: Email on cover Crops

Hello folks,

Both the radishes and oats in this experiment will winter kill. The radish residues will melt down to almost nothing by the end of April.
The oat residues will persist much longer. Next years corn crop will be planted without any preplant tillage into the radish rows which were drilled on 30" spacing.

In a preliminary experiment that will soon be harvested, corn planted into radish residues had less in-row weed pressure than corn planted into incorporated red clover or incorporated redclover and oats. I am eager to see if the reduced weed pressure actually resulted in significant differences in yield.

I would be glad to answer any questions that people may have about the photos that Ed shared or other aspects of WIU cover crop research.
