Google some of the PAMI reports, I think PAMI 798 addresses your issues. What you think may be 1" below and 1.5" to the side may end up being much closer in some conditions and seedling injury can result, especially with sideband openers like flexicoil stealth. Canola is worse than wheat for injury.
